Abstract: In the Czech Republic, Aesculapian snake (Zamenis longissimus) occurs in four small separate regions: along the Dyje river, in the Bílé Karpaty Mountains, near the Ohře river and near the village of Štěchovice (central Bohemia). Our study presents a solitary observation of a young adult Aesculapian snake discovered in the Vysočina Region, specifically near Velké Dářko lake. This location stands apart from the established localities by its notably lower temperatures. Although the origin of this specimen remains uncertain, it appears plausible that its survival in this colder region could be attributed to climate warming. Presently, the mean annual temperatures at this newfound location are similar to the temperatures observed at the snake’s traditional habitats back in 1990.
